How to care for your Childs Teeth:
Birth to 12 Months:
- Clean your baby's gums with a damp washcloth at least twice a day
- Do not allow your child to go to bed with a bottle containing anything but water
- After each breast-feeding session, wipe your infant's mouth with a damp cloth
- Using a damp cloth, clean teeth as they start to emerge
- When teeth begin to erupt in the back of the mouth (the baby molars), use a small toothbrush with soft, nylon bristles moistened with water
- Never sweeten a pacifier with any sweet substance
13 To 24 Months:
- Start to introduce fluoridated toothpaste
- Do not allow your child to go to bed with a bottle containing anything but water
- Brush your child’s teeth using a small dab of toothpaste twice a day
- Replace the toothbrush once every three months or when worn or frayed
- Never sweeten a pacifier with honey or other sweet substance
- Do not allow your child to go to bed with a bottle containing anything but water
- Offer healthy snacks to your child, such as fresh fruits and fresh vegetables. Avoid sugary snacks
- Set a good example for your child by practicing good oral hygiene and seeing your dentist twice a year for exam and cleaning
2 to 5 years:
- Your child can start brushing their own teeth , but you still need to be the primary brusher
- Use a toothbrush with soft, nylon bristles with a small dab of toothpaste
- Floss your child's teeth where ever two teeth are touching each other
- Replace the toothbrush once every three months, or when worn or frayed
- Offer healthy snacks to your child, such as fresh fruits and fresh vegetables. Avoid sugary snacks

6 to 7 years:
- Continue to check and if necessary, brush your child’s teeth after they brush
- Floss your child's teeth where ever two teeth are touching each other
- Lightly brush your child's tongue
- Take your child to the dentist for an exam and cleaning twice a year
- Set a good example for your child by practicing good oral hygiene
8 to 10 years:
- Continue to check and if necessary, brush your child’s teeth after they brush
- Start teaching your child how to floss
- Take your child to the dentist for an exam and cleaning twice a year
11 to 12 years:
- If necessary, remind your child to brush twice a day and to floss their teeth
- Encourage your child to eat good nutrition foods; don't keep junk food around the house
- Take your child to the dentist for an exam and cleaning twice a year
13 to 15 years:
- Reinforce how important it is to take care of your teeth by brushing and flossing
- Keep healthy, nutritious snacks available, such as fruits, vegetables
- Take your child to the dentist for an exam and cleaning twice a year
